United States Gambling Statistics

Although some people disagree with gambling being legalized in the United States, it remains a booming business. As a matter of fact, the yearly state and local revenue from gambling is more than $5.2 billion.  Gambling, or gaming as it is sometimes referred to, creates over 354,000 jobs.

The Scale Of Gambling

Gaming can be found on every scale in the United States.  From charitable bingo games, which are often low stakes games held in churches, to multi-million dollar online poker game tournaments, it’s all available.
In fact, 450 commercial casinos in 17 different states exist and grossed nearly $30 billion in 2004.  California, Colorado, Indiana, Michigan, North Carolina and other states all are home to popular casinos.

Card Room Locations

California is home to the most card rooms, with over 100 licensed in 2006.  Hollywood Park Racetrack, a popular thoroughbred racetrack located in Inglewood, California may be the most well known.  San Jose has card games in Bay 101 as well as Garden City.  The Bell Gardens are where you’ll find the Bicycle Casino, and of course the Commerce Casino is found in none other than Commerce, California.

Perhaps the most well known gaming sites are those held on Native American reservations.  Tribal Gambling, also known as Indian Gambling, accounts for about 350 casinos.  Their revenue can exceed $14.5 billion and that money is spent contributing towards government operations, as well as the economic development and welfare of the members of the tribe.
